Reaching others

Just as Jesus emphasized fellowship among believers, He also spent countless hours helping others.  We at Alberta Baptist Church believe that ministering to others is a great way to witness Christ's love.   Here are just some of the ways that you can help us minister to others.

Helping Hands Ministries

Helping Hands is a long-standing ministry of Alberta Baptist. It is one public face of Alberta Baptist’s benevolence program. With a history of providing food through the Angel Food Ministry, Helping Hands was propelled into a new level of service when disaster struck.

                                                                          Tornado, reaching out

April 27, 2011 Tornado. On April 27, 2011, a record-breaking tornado outbreak killed over 350 people from Louisiana to Virginia. That day a category Ef-4 tornado cut a one-mile-wide path through Tuscaloosa. As a result of that one tornado 44 people died in Tuscaloosa County, 5,000 homes were lost and 250 businesses were closed.

The Church Has Left the Building. Our church facilities were so severely damaged in that storm, we had to vacate our buildings. The next day, hundreds of volunteers from across the country started showing up without being called and without notice to help gather our belongings. Within a few days everything was secured in a warehouse south of town and our staff was relocated to a new office. We boarded up our buildings and turned our full attention to ministering to our community. The outpouring of help from churches and individuals through these months has been staggering. Six days a week, almost every week since the storm, there have been from 10 to 150 volunteers working through our church.

Helping Hands cares for our hurting community. Since the storm, through Helping Hands ministry, we’ve helped families with food, water and household supplies. Now as families move into new apartments and homes we help them with furnishings and housekeeping necessities. As ministries from across the country pour resources into Alberta Baptist we are able to pass them into our community.
